Who i am and what i stand for

Here at Transform Yoga we are passionate about transforming your yoga practice. Whether you are a complete beginner who wants to learn the basics, an intermediate practitioner who wants to deepen their practice or an experienced yogi working towards a specific goal, we can help you start your journey or progress your practice to get you where you want to be.

Our approach is simple. We specialise in bespoke one-to-one yoga sessions tailored to your specific goals and aspirations, targeted to produce results where you want them most.

Whatever your personal goals, our teachings remain true to our lineage. Every class is taught with compassion and enthusiasm and at a pace that is right for you. Classes focus on yoga postures but incorporate elements of breath work, meditation and relaxation.

Body Flexibility

COMPLETE BEGINNERS

Are you completely new to yoga?  You’ve heard about the many benefits of yoga and want to give it a try but are feeling a bit overwhelmed.  You’ve thought about trying a class and you may even have researched it online.  But there are so many different styles, Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Ashtanga…..how do you know what is right for you? Do you feel too nervous to go to a yoga studio because you are not flexible enough or fit enough and worry you’ll struggle through the class?  Well, here’s the thing.  Not everyone who does yoga can twist and flex their body into the poses you’ve seen on Instagram.  Yoga is accessible to everyone.  You just need to find the right class, and the right teacher. If you’re feeling a bit self-conscious or worried you won’t be able to do the poses as well as the next person (you shouldn’t by the way, yoga isn’t about that!), a one-to-one class can be a great way to explore yoga and help you build a strong foundation for your practice.  You can ask questions without feeling self-conscious, we’ll break down the postures for you and you’ll get step by step instructions to guide you in each aspect of the practice.  You can build your confidence and develop your practice in a non-judgemental, encouraging environment until you feel comfortable enough to join a group class.

Mindfullness

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE

Do you have a busy life, a stressful job, juggle multiple activities and often feel stressed, tired or anxious?  A regular yoga practice can help you feel calmer, more relaxed and better able to deal with life’s daily challenges. You may take a regular group yoga class and feel more relaxed, less tense and sleep well after the class but your stress levels may quickly rise the following day with the commute to work, a phone call with some bad news or a huge pile in your in-tray!  Group classes are a great way to build a regular practice, socialise with like-minded individuals and experience the energy of a group setting but there is rarely time for the teacher to share the wider benefits of yoga.  With our one-to-one sessions, in addition to everything you can expect from a group class, our focus will be entirely on YOUR practice so we can focus entirely on YOUR needs.    We can focus on a specific area if that needs attention.  For example, if you regularly suffer from tight shoulders, upper back and neck due to sitting hunched over a desk every day, we can tailor your practice to focus on relieving tension in these areas.  Or you might be a keen long-distance runner or cyclist and suffer from tight hamstrings. If so, we can work with you to help stretch and strengthen your hamstrings and help prevent future injuries. We will offer tips to perfect your alignment and deepen your practice.  We will also gently guide you through the principles and philosophy of yoga and suggest subtle changes you can make in your everyday life so you can enjoy a calmer, less stressful existence.

Self Recognition

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

Do you attend regular classes, notice some progress but have specific goals that aren’t being met in class? Maybe you want to perfect crow, side crow, headstand or scorpion but this pose isn’t practiced in your usual class or there isn’t enough time in class for you to fully master it.  With our one-to-one sessions, our attention is focused solely on YOU and YOUR practice so we can work with YOUR strengths and weaknesses.  We can help you identify what limitations are holding you back from your dream pose.  Once we know whether it’s core strength, shoulder strength or hip flexibility you need to work on, we can suggest preparatory poses to work on your problem area and give you step by step instructions. For example, we’ll walk you through our ‘8 steps to the perfect headstand’, watching you closely and moving to the next step only once you can maintain control in the previous step.   With our method, once you reach step 8, you’ll have the confidence to do a perfect, controlled headstand every time!

Private yoga tuition isn’t a modern concept (in fact, it’s group yoga classes which are modern).  In ancient India, the great teachers understood the importance of individualising the yoga experience to meet the needs of the student.  Often, the student would leave his home and family and move in with his teacher so he could learn first hand all aspects of a yogic lifestyle.  Modern lifestyles don’t permit such luxury (and my house, unfortunately, isn’t big enough to take lodgers) but here at Transform Yoga we can offer you an authentic yoga practice which is personalised and tailored to your specific requirements.
